For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind
2 Timothy 1:7

ABOUT US
Vanessa Tierney, a Rochester, NY native, obtained her BFA in sculpture from the College at Brockport in 2021. Although sculpture is her preferred medium, she also incorporates paintings to work with her 3D work. Vanessa's work frequently straddles the lines between race, black hair, religion, and nature. Her approach to these issues is frequently based on research and experimenting. Her attention is constantly drawn to the history of objects and their impact on others. Vanessa is drawn to objects and topics that already have a fully established story connected to them. Working with something that already has a narrative attached to it is difficult; as a result, she experiences constant push and pull between herself and the materials she employs. Vanessa strives to foster the tension between an object's past and future in her work.
